  7. The VERITAS Volume Manager (VxVM) for SCO UNIX is a powerful virtual disk
  8. management solution which maximizes system availability, increases disk I/O
  9. performance, protects against data loss, and significantly reduces the ongoing
  10. cost of disk and file system administration. VxVM has been available on RISC
  11. and CISC minicomputers and workstations worldwide, is an integral component of
  12. the UNIX International Roadmap, and is now available for SCO UNIX, SCO MPX, and
  13. SCO Open Desktop

  15. Without VxVM, UNIX systems require that operations and users be disrupted for
  16. hours while routine system administration tasks are performed. This is
  17. unacceptable in mission critical or multi-user environments
  18.  
  19. VxVM maximizes system availability: moving the contents of part or all of one
  20. disk to another (to maximize I/O performance or to salvage data form a failing
  21. disk) can be done online, without users or applications knowing it took place.
  22. Adding space to an existing file system interrupts availability for a few
  23. minutes, not hours, as no backup/restore is needed. These operations can even
  24. be done remotely if no SCO system manager is on site. Adding a new disk drive
  25. now takes only as long as is required to physically install the unit
  26.  
  27. VxVM improves performance and protects against data loss: VxVM supports
  28. spanning, striping (RAID-O), and mirroring (RAID-1). Any of these techniques,
  29. in any combination, on any portion of disk, can be applied to existing file
  30. systems (including root/swap) or databases without interrupting users
  31.  
  32. VxVM runs on existing SCO UNIX system independently of disk type (ESDI, SCSI,
  33. etc.), bus architecture (ISA, EISA, MCA), or controller. Please refer to the
